The 61st Fishing Pier is now Open!!

After almost two years, I have a
beach-front fishing pier report to pass on. The 61st Street
Fishing Pier reopened Saturday, and there were a lot of redfish
caught. Owner John Menna called in to say there were some really
big reds caught Saturday night.
Menna said for the next
several days, the pier will be closed during the day while
workers finish up and the doors will open at 5 p.m. The pier
will be open all night and close about 7 a.m. For information,
call 409-744-8365. Article posted 8/16/2010

Good News About The Galveston Fishing
Pier
The Owner Jimmy McClure of The Galveston Fishing Pier
replied to my note asking him for an update, and the news is
good.
Mr. McClure anticipates a June 1, 2011, opening.
He estimates everything will be in place in about three weeks
for the project to begin. At that time, fencing, a storage
container and specially milled materials will be ordered. The
specialty materials will take the longest to arrive, likely six
weeks. At that point, work will begin on the structure itself.
Mr. McClure hopes to have his new fishing pier totally
supplied by solar and wind energy. I will give periodic updates
after work begins. Article posted 8/2/2010
